GOOD HEALTH –Success Means Nothing Without It!

Gaining Momentum!

I am now seriously getting into this blogging thing and one of the crucial points I had to deal with was: “Where to begin?” I deeply considered this question. But it is now clear to me that starting with that consideration was the wrong place to start  altogether because it is paralyzing and can have you thinking for weeks on weeks without ever doing anything –thus delaying your progress. The best consideration is actually no consideration at all. All you really need to do is just get typing and you’ll figure out the rest of the crap as you go along.

A Funny But Surprising Twist

So in the end what got this project off its behind was actually an illness. I had initially planned to start my day early, go out there and totally crush it by achieving something huge which had been eluding me for the past few months. So lo and behold, I got up at 4:00am one Tuesday morning and started getting ready. As I was just getting into my morning reading session, out of nowhere I felt my stomach begin to feel tight and ‘funny’ and I thought to myself “Okay, just one trip to the restroom and this will be over quick.” Boy was I wrong lol!

My trip to the toilet was long and horrible –and excruciatingly painful. It was in fact a cold morning but for some reason, things got so hot and I ended up removing my jumper and sweatshirt and only remained in a vest despite fully being aware that the cold was cutting through my skin subconsciously. But I didn’t care! I am sure you can relate if you have had a running stomach before. Everything –including your own clothes just irks and irritates you.

When Things Take Longer Than Anticipated

Well, I ended up being in the war room for quite a bit –and then all of a sudden, I began feeling nauseous. I was therefore forced to quickly flush, turn around and immediately throw up. After about a minute of being at it, I felt a little better so I got some toilet paper and cleaned off. The pain in my stomach was gone but I felt tired and weak as I dragged myself into the bedroom. After falling on the bed, and thinking to myself that at least the horrible nightmare was over and that I could now get started with my day, the devil seemed to have all-of-a-sudden decided to re-enter my stomach and start kicking me from the inside of my gut. I fidgeted, screamed, writhed, squirmed and grimaced in pain.  It didn’t help that I was home alone that day so I couldn’t call anyone for help. Not that I would have been able to call for help even if someone was there because the pain was too much to even talk through.

The Heaven-sent Position

So I just kept on moving and shifting positions on the bed until I found a slightly less painful position which I held intensely for a while until I felt the pain begin to reduce. It was in that lifesaving position that I was greatly reminded of my mortality… the fact that I am one day going to die. It was also a painful reminder of the fact that health is gold and that you cannot achieve anything in life or even enjoy any of life’s pleasures without it. (As you read this, please bear in mind that I had not experienced that much pain for close to 4 years –Quite honestly, I think I had even forgot how such pain felt like. Needless to say, it was a harsh but necessary reminder. Being healthy for a very long period of time can make you start to think you are immortal or a tough guy).

So to cut the story short, all my plans of the leaving the house that day went out the window pretty quickly and I simply and limply lay on my bed all day –grounded and chained to my house by a bout of diarrhoea and vomiting. In truth, it was a battle I was never going to win because it was beyond my human control. So all I could do was just endure it to the end.

So what is the essence of this whole story?

Well, this story serves as a reminder that as you are out there planning and trying to achieve your goals, don’t ignore your health. Because you will need to be healthy if you are to attain even the smallest of achievements. Don’t compromise your health in your quest for wealth. You will quickly realise that health is in fact true wealth on its own –even though you don’t have a single material possession.

Be Smart

So never do dumb things which will compromise your health if you can help it. You will need to be healthy if at all you are to enjoy your life and your successes. Therefore, if you are healthy, you are already richer than you think. Make sure you take steps to continue being rich. Don’t sell your soul (in this case your health) for short-lived monetary gain. Go for a full medical check-up at least once a year. Exercise daily and eat healthy as much as possible. Also make sure you avoid alcohol and drugs as much as possible. Better yet, set a strict and specific number of times you allow yourself to drink and eat freely in a year –and stick to it.

Your future self will thank you for it.

Okay, I’m off to take the last dose of my diarrhoea meds now. See you in the next article.
